Khalyl Laws, Pocomoke’s top male finisher at its opening cross country event, led the Warriors to its first win of the season earning a time of 20:57.
SALISBURY, Md. — The Boys’ and Girls’ Pocomoke High School Cross Country team debuted at the Salisbury Park taking first and second place as a team, respectively. The boys’ team (32 points) edged second place Snow Hill (63) and James M. Bennett (63) as well as Wicomico (135). Other boys’ schools participating included Washington an Crisfield.
Franklin
Top individual place winners for the Warriors’ boys was senior Khalyl Laws (20:57) followed by junior Nick Palmer (21:05), who finished third and fourth overall. Other point scorers included sophomore Marvin Mason (21:32), sophomore Najee Taylor-Nelson (22:34), and freshman Chris Warner (23:00).
On the girls’ card, Pocomoke (33) finished second to Snow Hill (24). Other teams participating included James M. Bennett and Crisfiel. The top overall female runner was junior Cedara Franklin (24:11). Other point scorers included senior Cali Litton (26:07), senior Roaa Elhag (27:14), junior Sarah Switalski (30:32), and senior Emme Gladding (30:41).
Both boys and girls’ teams will compete again Wednesday, September 13th at the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational hosted at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. The girls’ race is slated to begin at 3pm with the boys’ race following at 3:30, and a co-ed JV race at 4pm, and awards ceremony for the top 25 individuals in each race at 4:45 pm.
